Terms of Service

Published

These terms govern your use of Scalpels, a service operated by Artisan Build, Inc. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you act for an organization, you must have authority to accept them on its behalf. Contact us at [email protected].

What Scalpels provides

Scalpels helps you discover, deploy, connect, and manage software on infrastructure you control. Your hosting, repositories, and deployed applications remain in your accounts. Scalpels is not a substitute for managing your infrastructure, backups, security, or third-party bills.

Features may change, and experimental features may be incomplete or unavailable. Unless we separately agree otherwise in writing, we do not promise a particular uptime, response time, or service level.

Accounts and teams

Provide accurate account and billing information, protect your credentials, and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for the people and agents you authorize to act through your account or team.

Team owners and administrators must assign permissions appropriately and remove access when it is no longer needed. You may need to transfer ownership of a team before deleting your own account.

Connected services and agent access

Connect only accounts and infrastructure you are authorized to manage. You authorize Scalpels to use the credentials and permissions you provide to carry out requested operations.

Operations can create billable hosting resources, fork repositories, open pull requests, deploy code, change environment configuration, send email, and invoke tools in installed applications. An authorized agent may request these operations on your behalf within its permissions. Review the permissions you grant and revoke access you no longer need. An agent can make mistakes, and its output is not a guarantee that an operation is safe or correct.

Third-party services, including hosting providers, GitHub, Stripe, and your chosen AI clients, have their own terms, prices, and policies. You are responsible for charges from your infrastructure and other providers even when Scalpels itself is free. Ending your Scalpels account does not automatically delete those resources or cancel those charges.

Acceptable use

Do not use Scalpels to break the law, infringe others' rights, access systems without permission, distribute malware, send spam, harass people, or interfere with the service. Do not attempt to bypass access controls or other users' team boundaries. Report security issues privately to [email protected].

You must have permission to submit the content you provide. Do not place secrets, sensitive personal information, or confidential customer data in public listings or community attachments. We may remove content or limit access to address abuse, security threats, or legal requirements.

Your content and open-source software

You retain your rights in your content and repositories. You give us the permission needed to host, process, transmit, and display content as required to provide the features you use. Information you submit for a public listing may be published. Support and community content may be retained as described in our Privacy Policy.

Software in the catalog is governed by its own license. These terms do not replace those licenses or take away the rights they grant you. The Scalpels name, branding, and website content are not licensed merely because a catalog application is open source.

Some services, supporter benefits, and partner listings require payment. The price, billing interval, and included benefits are those shown at checkout or otherwise agreed in writing. Stripe processes payments.

Recurring subscriptions renew on the disclosed schedule until canceled. You can manage an eligible subscription through the billing controls and Stripe customer portal. Cancellation does not itself cancel services you buy directly from hosting or other providers.

Contact us about billing mistakes or refund requests. Refunds and cancellation rights are subject to applicable law and any terms disclosed for the purchase. We do not promise that a paid listing, introduction, or supporter benefit will produce sales or other business results.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle account information, connected services, analytics, support content, and agent requests. Relayed product calls pass through Scalpels and are not end-to-end encrypted between your AI client and the product. Choose clients and permissions that are appropriate for the information you intend to access.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Scalpels and use the available account and billing controls to disconnect services, revoke agent access, cancel subscriptions, or request account deletion. Some steps must be completed separately with the third-party provider.

We may suspend or end access where reasonably necessary to address a breach of these terms, nonpayment, abuse, a security risk, or a legal requirement. Where practical and lawful, we will explain the reason and provide an opportunity to resolve it. Retention and deletion of information are described in the Privacy Policy.

Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by law, Scalpels is provided as available and without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service, generated changes, third-party software, or agent-requested operations will be error-free or meet every requirement. Maintain your own backups and review consequential changes.

To the extent permitted by law, neither party is liable under these terms for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, including lost profits. Artisan Build's total liability arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us for Scalpels in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limits do not apply to fraud, willful misconduct, or liability that applicable law does not allow us to exclude or limit.

Changes and contact

We will publish changes to these terms on this page and record them below. We will provide additional notice where required by law. If you do not agree to revised terms, stop using the service and cancel any subscriptions you do not wish to continue.

For questions about these terms, contact [email protected].
